Empowering Caregivers Everywhere…….
Supporting Caregivers through Resource and Community
They tell you that caregivers are ‘angels on Earth.’ But most days, I don’t feel like an angel. I feel like a waitress, a navigator, and a woman trying to keep her head above a relentless tide.

“The sacrifices made by caregivers often go unnoticed, but their impact is immeasurable.”
Your Trusted Caregiving Companion
Welcome to the Nook! If you’re here, you’re likely exhausted, spread thin, and looking for something more than just medical advice. You’re looking to feel like you again. I’m Allison, and after my husband’s massive stroke three years ago, I realized that caregiving isn’t just a job—it’s a total loss of self. This is a place for the personal help the big websites miss. It’s for the ‘smaller’ stuff that actually keeps us sane, like finding a moment of silence or the permission to be a disaster sometimes.
For 22 years, my life was a beautiful, chaotic balance: raising two daughters, running our restaurant, Allie’s Beach Street Cafe, and building a future with my husband, Glenn. Then, everything crashed. Glenn suffered a massive stroke that left him with global aphasia and a life forever changed.
In an instant, I was no longer just a partner; I was a primary caregiver. I was the one who had to make the impossible choices in the hospital, and I was the one left to manage the fallout when the medical world moved on.
.The “Nook” Philosophy: Why I’m Here
“It’s been almost 4 years since the stroke. In that time, I’ve learned that ‘self-care’ isn’t just a bubble bath. It’s a radical act of resistance. It’s about figuring out how to have a sense of self while someone else’s needs occupy every room in your house.
I created the Nook because I wanted a place that talks about the ‘small stuff’—the cringe-worthy moments, the silent car rides, and the grit it takes to recover from a bad day. I’m still a disaster sometimes, but my ‘recovery time’ is faster now. Why? Because I stopped looking for a cure and started looking for a map.
When I’m not in the Nook or serving tables in Gloucester, you’ll find me on the NH48—climbing New Hampshire’s 4,000-foot peaks. Those mountains taught me that even when the tide is relentless, there is always solid ground if you’re willing to climb for it.
